So many changes for the San Diego Modern Quilt Guild in 2013 - a new meeting place, lots of new members, joining the National MQG, a field trip up North, and lots of exciting challenges and projects!
The December 8th meeting was the last one led by our outgoing President Sandi (aka Missplanner), but she ran us through a full agenda before stepping aside. Here are some of the December meeting highlights:
SD Bee: we collected string blocks for Angela G's chevron quilt. If you have more, bring them to the January 12, 2014 meeting. No new bee for December - we're taking a holiday break. So we'll all be rested and ready for Pam's January assignments.
4Q Charity Quilt: We gave a stack of Urban Chicken blocks to Patti for piecing. When she's done, Chris will be on quilting duty, with Jen waiting in the wings, ready to rock the binding.
**Heather Ross Fussy Cut Challenge Winners**
Of course we're all winners for coming up with such creative and wonderful projects, but Heather Ross herself select two of them for special recognition: I-Chun's tea cozy set won the Small/Mini category, and Pam's amazing Heather Ross Village Quilt was the winner in the Large Category. Well done, everyone!
National MQG membership - Make sure you are counted!
Our dues-paying members (as of October) should have received an e-mail in early November from "firstname.lastname@example.org" with the subject line "Account Activation: Welcome to Modern Quilt Guild membership through your local MQG!"
If you did, please make sure you followed the link to create your profile on the MQG website.
But wait! There's more! Click the "Groups" tab at the top of the page, find the San Diego MQG page, and click "Join Group" so they'll know you're really a member. You might want to "follow" the group too, so you don't miss any of the exciting discussions and announcements.
Secret Santa gifts were exchanged (many photos on the Flickr page), to the delight of the recipients. For everyone else, there were many raffle prizes, generously donated by Angela D. from her enormous fabric collection.
And then it was time for the changing of the guard. Sandi gave us a brief history of the guild (4 people in January 2011 growing to 39 members as of November 2013!) and we said goodbye to the outgoing officers Amanda, Angela D., and Sandi (Pam and Susan K. are staying on for 2014). We surprised Sandi with a thank you Presidential Quilt, made with contributions from several stealthy sewists (say that three times fast!) Our new officers will take over in January, if we all survive the holidays.
Sew & Tell featured many beautiful projects, including Jen's 50 (!) bookmarks and Angela D's Giant Bee Quilt. Check out all the projects on our Flickr page. (If you don't see your creation there, it's because your secretary/photographer is a little clumsy with the focus button.)
We ended the meeting with a potluck lunch to celebrate a successful year with the company of many good friends. Looking forward to more of the same in 2014!
