The San Diego Modern Quilt Guild is a community of quilters from all over San Diego County. Our guild members include all levels of quilters, sewers, and/or fabric enthusiasts. Our group is meant to be a place for modern quilters to connect and create. Check out all the inspiring things our members have been working on lately… SDMGQ flickr group photos
If you have never been to a meeting or sew-in before, COME ON BY! We would love to chat and sew with you. All levels are welcome. We meet once a month with a combination meeting and sew-in.
Guild meetings are the second Sunday of every month from 11am-12pm. We meet at a great little quilt shop called Quilt in a Day located at 1955 Diamond St, San Marcos, CA, 92078. We conduct our meetings right before our sew-in. This is so we can still have a formal meeting and people who just want to drop by, but don’t want to sew, can still participate. Our meeting/sewing room is located in the back left corner of Quilt in a Day. If for some reason that room is booked for other groups that day, we will try to come up with an alternative location and any changes will be announced through our social media outlets.
Our meetings include a variety of topics and tutorials related to the art of modern quilting. A typical meeting will include discussion of any official business, a mini presentation of a new block from an SDbee member, a project Show-n-Tell (which we call Sew-n-Tell), a demonstration of a specific quilting technique, a raffle prize drawing for all members that are present, and general chatting with like minded sewing fanatics such as yourself! We also LOVE swaps… mini projects, fabric, and scrap swaps just to name a few. Swaps are always voluntary and always fun! If you would like to join us for a meeting, just bring yourself and any projects you would like to show.
Starting in January 2013, the meetings and sew-in will be combined into one good time! It will be the second Sunday of the month, right after our meeting, usual starting about 12pm and ending around 4pm at Quilt in a Day. You don’t have to stay the whole time, just stop in when it is convenient for you. The sew-in is about getting together and just sewing. Quilt in a Day graciously provides big sewing tables, extension cords, design walls, ironing boards, irons, and cutting tables for our unlimited use. All you need to bring is your own sewing machine, any projects you would like to work on, and a snack if you get hungry. If you don’t want to bring your sewing machine, bring a hand-sewing project or just come on by to chat. Quilt is a Day will also rent sewing machines for $7 on a first come first serve basis.
Our membership year begins in January and ends the following December. Annual dues for 2014 are $35. After June, dues are prorated to $17 for the remainder of the guild year.
Of course, visitors are welcome to try out a meeting or sew-in before committing. You may attend two meetings or sew-ins for free, as a visitor.
