We had a full house
with several first-time visitors at the October San Diego Modern Quilt Guild
meeting. Fortunately, we had a lot to talk about:
SD Bee activities
(explanation and schedule here)
September: Some
self-starters have already finished their bookshelf blocks for Jennifer.
If you have more, bring them to the November 10 meeting.
October: Directions for
I-Chun's butterfly butterfly blocks are on Flickr. Use your own fabric, or contact her on Flickr for supplies. Bring finished
blocks to November 10 and December 8 meetings.
Charity Quilts:
The 2Q wonky house
quilt is off to be quilted. When finished, it will go to Operation Homefront. We also finished collecting the 3Q wonky cross blocks, so they are off to be pieced by
Angela D., and then quilted by Amanda. This one will go to the UCSD Oncology unit.
For the 4Q quilt we
will be making Urban Chicken blocks, as inspired by the Portland MQG. Fabric packets are available from Angela D., and blocks will be due by the
December 8 meeting. Volunteers for piecing, quilting, batting and backing are
still needed, so please sign up on the Flickr page if you are interested.
Heather Ross Fussy Cut Challenge: We have until November 30 to finish our entries and post them to the Challenge Flickr group). Only three entries are posted as of today, but there were more projects at the
meeting. So get sewing!
Secret Santa Swap sign-up is
closed and partners have been assigned. Starter gifts were exchanged at the
October meeting, or bring them to the November 10 meeting. Bring completed swap
items to the December 8 meeting.
2014 dues: Our
President, Sandi proposed raising dues from $25 to $35 for 2014 to cover the
cost of joining the National MQG. After a brief discussion of the guild's
expenses and budget, the motion passed. Collection of the $35 2014 dues will
begin in January.
Nominations for 2014
officer positions were taken, and the following people volunteered/were
volunteered. We decided to be nice and not nominate anyone in absentia this
time :)
Treasurer - Pam Sadler
Secretary - Susan Kephart
VP of Operations – Marisa Thompson
VP of Activities – Chris Broehmer
President - Deb Donovan
The vote will be held
at the November 10 meeting.
★★Special fun activity alert!★★ Clear your calendar on January 18, 2014 for the first ever SoCal MQG Meet-up to be held at Sewing Party in Laguna Hills. We’ll connect with our counterparts from
the LA, Orange County, and San Bernadino Modern Quilt Guilds. Time and transportation
details to follow, as we figure them out.
Sew-and-Tell: Many
wonderful projects were shared. Check out the photos posted on Flickr (www.flickr.com/groups/sdmqg/pool/)
And finally, just in
time for autumn, Deb Donovan gave us a demonstration of two quick and easy ways
to make no-waste and low-waste flying geese.
We look forward to seeing you all at the next meeting, November 10, 2013, at Quilt in a Day, San Marcos!
