Free Fabric Challenge - Are You Ready?

Who wants to win a year of free fabric? Who doesn't?
The San Diego Modern Quilt Guild will be participating in the new MQG Michael Miller Fabric Challenge (details here). They'll send us free fabric for everyone who signs up. You can make whatever we want out of it, as long as it's quilted. The prize for the 3 winners will be A YEAR OF FREE FABRIC!

If you want to participate, please sign up on our Flickr page by Tuesday February 25, 2014.

February Meeting Highlights

Sure, the Superbowl was bigger, but not nearly as exciting as the February 9, 2014 San Diego Modern Quilt Meeting! If you couldn't face the winter weather (it was cloudy!) here's what you missed:

SDBee: We collected some blue slab blocks for Pam. If you have more, bring them to the March 9th meeting. Theresa M. passed out kits to make modern pinwheel blocks, which will be due at the April 13th meeting. Next month Patti will be the Bee Queen.

Charity Quilts: The three incubator quilt tops from January's challenge are out for quilting (Pam, Chris, and Susan K.), as are the Urban Chicken (Chris), Wonky Cross (Amanda), and Wonky House (Ileen) quilts. We'll have quite a pile when they're all done! We'll present a new/old 2nd quarter charity project at our April 13th meeting.

Swaps Galore! We had 12 participants in the solid strip swap this month, and what a variety of colors there were - so many beautiful ocean blues and greens.

In March, we will swap scraps - no sign-up required. Bring in a quart-sized bag (or two) of modern scraps, and we'll dump them all into a big pile for everyone to pick out of. You can take home as much as you bring in.

Start to plan ahead for our grocery bag swap in April. Again, no sign-ups required. Just make a bag (here are some ideas and tutorials from last year's swap) and be prepared to get one in return.

Dues: We've renewed our guild membership with the national Modern Quilt Guild and expect to get membership cards next month. If you still want to join, please contact our treasurer Pam (aka costal gray). We're still sorting things out with the MQG website though, so if you are having trouble identifying yourself as a SDMQG member, you're not alone.

Local Events: Some of our guild associates will be speaking/teaching in the area soon. Julie Herman will be teaching at Cozy Quilts in El Cajon on February 16 and Sue Bouchard will be speaking at the North County Quilters' Association meeting on February 17 in Escondido.

Demo & Sew-n-Tell: Pictures are worth thousands of words, so check out our Flickr page for the details.

See you all at our next meeting, 11:00 am, Sunday March 9 2014 at Quilt in a Day, San Marcos!

Guild Meeting Sunday February 9, 2014

Please join us at 11:00 am on Sunday February 9, at Quilt in a Day for the next San Diego Modern Quilt Guild meeting and Sew-In.

There will be a swap of solid strips, Theresa M. will be presenting her block for the SD Bee, and Susan K. will give a demo of very easy ways to appliqué circles (and maybe other shapes!) Pam will be collecting her blue bee blocks, and your dues, if you haven't paid yet. There will be a raffle for all attendees.

Be sure to bring your latest creations for Sew-n-Tell - we love to see what everyone's been working on!

After the talking is done, the Sew-In continues until 4:00 pm. Everybody is  encouraged to stay for some unstructured creative time (and maybe some gossip about the So Cal MQG meet up and the Road to California).

Visitors are always welcome at the SDMQG. Your first two meetings are free, so come see what we're all about!

Blogroll Update Time!

Due to unforeseen technical difficulties (*cough* operator error *cough*), the member blogroll that usually appears on the right of this blog has been inadvertently deleted.  :(

So it's time to generate a new blogroll! if you are a member of the SDMQG, and you would like to have your personal blog linked to our group blog here, please leave your URL in the comments to this post. We'd love to keep up with you all online as well as in person!
