Our First Group Activity

Although we have only had two meetings of our guild, I have learned that we have quite a talented group of modern quilters here in San Diego County. Since I was given the task of coming up with a group activity at our first meeting, I thought there is no better way to showcase our sewing skills and big hearts than with a charity quilt. One of our members, Barb, has visited an orphanage in Mexico that she thinks would be the perfect place for our quilt to go, so we will be making it for the children down there. I happened to have a few extra yards of this Kaffe Fasset print in my stash which will be the backing of this quilt and our color palette inspiration...

I wanted to pick a block that was modern, used scraps, and came together quickly, so I chose the wonky star as seen below.

It would be wonderful if we could all make at least one block for this quilt. A scrappy wonky star tutorial can be found here. Instead of the 4 inch blocks in the tutorial, please cut 5 inch blocks for the final block size of 14 inches. Use the Kaffe Kasset print as your color inspiration and have fun! Make one block, two blocks, or no blocks. This is not a requirement, just a group activity to enjoy. If you are new to sewing or don't have a big scrap collection yet, we can work on making these at our future sew in. I hope to see everyone there!
