It was Mothers' Day, and the May 11 San Diego Modern Quilt Guild meeting featured not only gifts for Moms, but also freshly minted Moms (Kate) and any-day-now-moms-to-be (Theresa). If you were off enjoying your own family celebrations, here's what you missed:
1) The Angela Walters Trunk Show and Machine quilting demonstration on August 2 are filling up. All dues-paying SDMQG members should have received e-mail invitations already. Be sure to sign up before the unsold seats become available to the general public on June 15. There is also an opportunity for a hands-on Longarm Quilting Lesson for a maximum of 5 people on Friday August 1. See the discussion at the link for info.
2) The Del Mar Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival is May 15-17, in case you don't already have enough fabric and quilting supplies (and admit it, you don't). There will be a charge for parking at the fairgrounds, but you can download a free admission ticket at the link. They had some pretty good stuff last year!
The SD Bee, Demo, and Swaps were all postponed until June, so we went directly into Sew-n-Tell. You can see from the pictures in our Flickr Pool that upcoming Summer vacations required making many tote bags, Mothers and Mothers-in-Law are getting some quilts made with love, charity quilts have been completed, and Theresa C. finally unveiled her Alphabet SDBee quilt, with some snazzy Angela Walters-style woodgrain quilting.
Speaking of Theresa C., we're sad to she's moving to Virginia soon, especially since that means we won't get to see much of her soon-to-be-born-daughter. But we surprised her with a very pink baby quilt featuring string blocks made by guild members, and we hope it will find a place in their new home.
Our next meeting is Sunday June 8, at 11:00 am at Quilt in a Day. We'll be back to our usual busy schedule, so we hope to see you all there!
